JON HASSELL & MAARIFA STREET (US)
Thursday 15 November 2007 from 23.00 until 0.00 h
Casino Modern, Genk
Composer / trumpet player Jon Hassell is a visionary. He is the inventor of a music style that he calls himself as the 'Fourth World': original, mysterious and hybrid music, old and digital at the same time, composed and improvised, oriental and occidental.
Hassell has worked together with
celebrities such as Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel. He recorded
various solo albums, which each of them had an important influence on
contemporary music.
His album ëFascinomaí (1999),
produced by Ry Cooder, heralds a new chapter in Jon Hassellís career. Here he works
together with Ry Cooder as well as with jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson. It is
this album that inspires a new generation of European trumpet players like
Erik Truffaz, Paolo Fresu and Nils Petter Molvaer. Hassell is without any doubt
a musical jack-of-all-trades, but above all he is also an extraterrestrial in the jazz universe.
