RENAUD GARCIA - FONS & ARCOLUZ (FR)
Friday 16 November 2007 from 20.00 until 20.50 h
Casino Modern, Genk
Renaud Garcia-Fons, one of the most amazing double bass players, is mainly renowned because of his overpowering virtuosity. He finds his inspiration not only in jazz and classical music, but also in styles like flamenco, tango and even Arabic, Indian or Celtic music.
We can
find his work on the famous label Enja where a.o. Rabih Abou-Khalil (who performed last year at Motives Festival), has also found his niche. Renaud Garcia-Fons has
worked together with a.o. Dhafer Youssef, Cheb Mami, NguyÍn LÍ and Rabih
Abou-Khalil.
He has
developed a new language for his instrument, which seems to take other forms. At certain moments we can hear a Spanish guitar, then a guembri (bass
instrument played by Berbers), a viola or even an Persian violin.
